Certified Wildlife Habitat® with Raleigh Perennials and the National Wildlife Federation™

Raleigh Perennials clients have the option to design their yard as an official Certified Wildlife Habitat® that meets or exceeds the standards set by the National Wildlife Federation™

What's a Certified Wildlife Habitat®?

A Certified Wildlife Habitat is a designation provided by the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) to properties that create a sustainable environment for local wildlife. These habitats can be backyards, schoolyards, community spaces, or even business properties. The aim is to support wildlife by providing the necessary elements for their survival, such as food, water, cover, and places to raise their young, while promoting ecological balance.

How You're Helping Wildlife

A Certified Wildlife Habitat (CWH) helps restore vital ecosystems in your own backyard as rapid urban development threatens wildlife habitats. Private residential property now makes up about one-third of the urban landscape, and studies show that wildlife gardening has a significant impact. A CWH provides a better environmetn for local species like bees, butterflies, birds, and amphibians. With sustainable practices like native planting and organic gardening, you can help replenish resources for wildlife, reduce harmful runoff, and contribute to a healthier environment.

Certification Requirements

Certified Wildlife Habitat® yards must meet certain standards in order to make a difference.

Food

Native plants provide food eaten by a variety of wildlife. Feeders can supplement natural food sources.

Water

All animals need water to survive, and some need it for bathing or breeding.

Places to Raise Young

Wildlife need resources to reproduce, and to protect and nourish their young.

Cover

Wildlife need places to take shelter from bad weather, hide from predators, or hunt for prey.

Sustainable Practices

Maintain your yard or garden in natural ways to ensure soil, air, and water stay healthy and clean.
